I swiped this from Jen and like her, put it someplace where I can find it again easily. Plus, DH has been looking for a good chili recipe so maybe we’ll give this one a whirl.
1-1/2 – 2 lbs ground beef
1/2 cup water
4 Tbsp chili powder (I use barely any so the kids don’t complain it’s too spicy LOL)
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
2 tsp sugar (or splenda!)
(I also throw in a few dashes of cumin)
1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 large onion coarsely chopped
1 can (28 oz) chopped tomatoes with liquid
2 cans (16oz ea) red kidney beans with liquid
(shredded cheddar cheese)
saute meat in its own juices until brown
add other ingredients (except cheese) in order above. simmer min. 30 mins and up 1 hour.
(She says to serve over noodles or rice – I skip that part because of the carbs and serve it with a small bit of sour cream and with the cheddar cheese on top.
This makes 10 servings – so there’s usually left overs for lunches and/or another dinner.
If you try it before I do, let me know what you think…
